Many changes occur during pregnancy, not the least of which is rapid weight gain. Because of rapid weight gain and changes in mechanics and gait during pregnancy, the feet must adjust to the increased pressure and might become painful. Unfortunately, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Advil or Aleve would be the most helpful, but they are not safe to take during pregnancy.
There are several other techniques to alleviate foot pain during pregnancy. Flip-flops are the footwear of choice for many ladies. Although understandably convenient, this is one of the worst things you can do. During pregnancy, the feet require more support than ever. Without proper support, your feet will stretch out and appear to “grow” throughout pregnancy, to the point where your shoes will be too small even after the baby is delivered.
If you’re having a child and your feet are becoming increasingly sore, consider switching to a more structured shoe. If it doesn’t work, contact the foot doctor at DeNiel Foot and Ankle Center, and we’ll set up an appointment to get you some relief.
