There is a range of over-the-counter insoles for running shoes to choose from. Of course, some are better than others. Some are inadequately supportive, while others pretend to be more than they are and cost as much as a custom orthotic.
Insoles from drugstores, are too flexible to provide you any kind of control while jogging. They will provide some padding, but don’t expect them to provide support.
Insoles made of firm rubber, leather, or plastic, on the other hand, are more expensive. They are frequently sold for $250 or more at specialty businesses such as the Good Feet Store and Foot Solutions. Ironically, these look like the $29.99 insoles advertised on late-night infomercials! Be aware that once you leave the store, they will not accept returns.
An off-the-shelf insole should cost between $30 and $60. Superfeet, Spenco, and SofSole are among the brands available in sports shoe and running stores. Redithotics insoles are available at our Houston podiatry office.
