What should I do if I notice a problem with my foot?

Diabetic foot ulcer
Diabetic foot ulcer

There is a strong link between detecting and getting treatment for a diabetic foot problem. The sooner a problem is detected and treated, such as a diabetic foot ulcer, the more likely it is to be adequately treated and healed fast. I’ve seen my Houston patients wait weeks, months, and even years to get their foot addressed, with outcomes ranging from slow healing to limb amputation.

I routinely advise my diabetic patients to do a self-inspection of their feet every night. This is a short glance at the bottom and top of their feet, as well as between their toes, for 30 seconds. Look for anything that wasn’t there the night before, such as redness, bleeding, pus, cracking, or anything else that doesn’t appear to be normal. The good news is that you’ll know it’s not more than a day old if you do find something. Simply call our Houston podiatry clinic and explain that you are diabetic and believe you have an issue. We’ll be able to get you in on the same day.

When it comes to my diabetic patients, I’d prefer you call and find out it’s nothing than wait and have a significant problem. If you notice something on your foot that you believe could be an issue, make an appointment with Dr. Ejodamen Shobowale of DeNiel Foot and Ankle Center right away.
