What should I do if I’m concerned that my socks are restricting my circulation?

Choose properly-fitting socks
Choose properly-fitting socks

Socks come in a variety of styles and sizes. You can have an issue with a tight band around your calf. This is especially true if you have diabetes or have poor circulation in general. This is how many socks are created to keep them from slipping down… which is very crucial in a sock!

Circulation might be restricted by the tight band at the top of your socks. Compressing your calf might block arteries that provide blood to your foot. This can cause excruciating pain after a long period of walking, which is only relieved by rest. It can also raise the risk of problems including skin ulcers.

It is essential to pick socks that will not give you difficulties in order to avoid complications caused by wearing improper socks. Diabetic socks with a looser fit around the calf are available from a variety of manufacturers. Compression socks that give consistent compression through the calf are available if you need some compression due to edema or venous insufficiency.

Compression socks and diabetic socks are both easily accessible. Dr. Ejodamen Shobowale have both at DeNiel Foot and Ankle Center. If you’re not sure if your current socks are good for you, make an appointment with our Houston podiatry office right away.
