Plantar warts are a skin infection caused by a virus. The lesion embeds itself in the skin, multiplying and spreading often. Warts can affect anybody, although they are more frequent in children.
The wart, or verruca plantaris, flourishes when the skin has a sufficient blood supply and is well moisturized. A child’s foot, especially if it gets sweaty easily, satisfies this demand better than anything else. As a result, children are at a higher risk of contracting the virus and developing plantar warts. It’s also not uncommon for several warts to appear. Don’t wait for a wart to spread. For an immediate appointment, please contact the foot and ankle specialist at our Houston podiatry clinic.
