What Is Causing My Heel Pain?

Painful heel
Painful heel

The common cause of heel pain, whether beneath or behind the heel, is an inflammation of the ligament that attaches to the heel bone. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament that causes pain beneath the heel. Achilles tendinitis or pain behind the heel is commonly caused by an inflammation of the Achilles tendon.

The inflammation is caused by things, such as running, a stumble or fall, or exercise, but the pain usually lingers and persists. The mechanics of your foot and ankle are to blame for this lingering. Any inefficiency will cause the legs and feet to overwork, preventing the inflammation from healing. Controlling the mechanics with an insole or custom orthotic will help to prevent long-term pain and inflammation.

The longer you wait to address your heel pain, the longer it takes for it to go away completely. Contact your local Houston foot specialists to determine the source of your discomfort and get you back on your feet.
